Vacation Rental Website ABetterStay.com Launches - EON: Enhanced Online News (press release)

Posted: 20 Jan 2010 05:11 AM PST

Site Caters to Value-Minded Travelers Wanting More Space and Better Pricing Without Busywork and Guesswork

PASADENA, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--ABetterStay.com, a premier online source for booking alternative, high-value lodgings such as vacation rentals, condos, resorts, timeshares and bed and breakfasts, today announced its formal public launch at a time when travelers seek more value for their vacation dollars. However, unlike other vacation rental websites, ABetterStay.com offers professionally managed accommodations that are booked through its fully transactional website. This offers consumers the ability to interact directly and immediately with trained vacation experts, and eliminates the risks involved with booking directly with vacation owners.

"We believe ABetterStay.com is the next step in the evolution of the online vacation rental sphere"

Specializing in popular destination vacation properties, ABetterStay.com (http://www.abetterstay.com) offers multi-room accommodations with more space, privacy and amenities than typical lodging – often at a lower price.

"We believe ABetterStay.com is the next step in the evolution of the online vacation rental sphere," said Erik Hovanec, CEO, Leisure Link, Inc. (http://www.leisurelink.com), which owns and operates ABetterStay.com and is the leading distribution and revenue management platform for specialty lodging suppliers. "The industry remains highly fragmented and focused on individual renter-owners. We see an opportunity to serve vacationers who want superior accommodations at professionally managed resorts and who want value without the risk of being disappointed upon arrival. ABetterStay.com is poised to become the leader in the space for travelers who want a one-stop shop for a better vacation."

ABetterStay.com, which has been in beta since early 2008, has a deep inventory of superior accommodations at key resort destinations in the U.S. including Florida, Georgia, California, Hawaii, Colorado, Missouri, Mississippi and Texas. Internationally, some of the most popular resort properties are located in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Italy.

ABetterStay.com's launch comes at a fortuitous time for travelers, especially those planning family vacations. According to Travel + Leisure magazine, family vacations are on the rise while other areas of the industry continue to slump in a recessionary economy, and those families are turning to non-traditional accommodations that offer more space, privacy and amenities at a better value.

An online survey by ABetterStay.com of its users confirms the trend. "Nearly 65% of respondents said that they preferred vacation rentals because of the combination of benefits they offer," said Chad Rutt, Director of Marketing for ABetterStay.com. "More than half said they considered 'value for price' above all other considerations when booking accommodations."

ABetterStay.com also features a content-rich blog (http://www.abetterstay.com/blog/) providing travelers with a one-stop resource to enhance their vacation plans. The blog gives in-depth information into the most popular travel destinations such as local community events and activities and tips to ensure a memorable stay.

"As the vacation rental market continues to mature in the U.S., more travelers understand and appreciate the benefits of more space and value that come with a vacation rental versus a standard hotel room," said Rutt. "Yet, unlike other vacation rental booking sources – online or offline – ABetterStay.com gives consumers peace of mind and guaranteed satisfaction. Since our properties are professionally managed, consumers can rest assured that their accommodations will meet their expectations. We eliminate the surprises that may come with booking with individual owners."

Asia dominates the world's most beautiful airports - Independent

Posted: 20 Jan 2010 05:48 AM PST

The January edition of US-based Travel + Leisure magazine has scoured the globe to find the 13 most beautiful airports, proving that Asia does indeed host the best airports in the world.

Korea's Incheon airport, winner of the SkyTrax Best Airport Award 2009, makes an appearance, as does the 3.2 km long, $3.5 billion (€2.45 billion) dragon-shaped Terminal 3 at Beijing International. Hong Kong International Airport is praised for its "billowing roofs," and Kansai International Airport at Osaka is described as a "thing of wonder." In fact, five of the 13 most beautiful airports are in Asia, three are in Europe, two are in the US, a further two in South America and one in Africa.

In some cases, the airports are a product of their locations. The timber-framed Malvinas Argentinas Airport for instance, the world's southernmost international airport, is noted for its natural setting and the fact that arriving aircraft must fly over the stunning Andes Mountains to land. Similarly, the white fabric roof of Denver International Airport is an interesting concept by itself, but breathtaking when silhouetted against the Rocky Mountains.

One retired airport even made the list - Berlin's Templehof International Airport, closed in 2008.The airport was ordered by Nazi architect Albert Speer as part of Hitler's Welthauptstadt (World Capital) Germania project, and the 1.2 km long curved terminal is still known as one of the largest built entities in history. After the commanding officer at the airport refused to destroy it in the final days of WWII, the airport was made famous during the Berlin Airlift when Allied forces flew food and supplies into it, 24 hours a day for almost a year. Templehof finally closed, despite protests, in 2008, and it is reported that it will be transformed into a park.

Chicago is a Top Waterfront City - ChicagoNow (blog)

Posted: 20 Jan 2010 10:59 AM PST

In a recent issue of Travel & Leisure, a top travel magazine, Chicago was listed as one of 15 Top Waterfront Cities in the World.  There were three cities in the U.S. listed, Chicago, Baltimore, MD & San Francisco, CA.  Eight cities listed are in Europe.  The selection is made by the PPS (Project for Public Spaces), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping people create and sustain public places that build communities.  Waterfronts is just one public project area that the PPS sets criteria for.  In addition to Waterfronts they also set criteria for Transportation, Civic Centers, Public Markets, Downtown's, Mixed Use of Development, Campuses & Squares.

Why is Chicago's Waterfront on the list?  Chicago's Waterfront is community based and diverse so that the access, offerings and appeal is not dominated buy one community focus.  Easy access by numerous means of transportation, great shopping, dining, activities, etc.

What do I love about Chicago's Waterfront?  From North to South the waterfront is beautiful!  While Navy Pier is a main attraction, the city line is gorgeous.  I walk from Lower Randolph to just beyond the Shedd Aquarium at sunset, when I turn around to come back the sun has already set and the sky line is lit up.  When I turn the corner to come around the Shedd Aquarium the view is breathtaking.

What do you love about Chicago's Waterfront?
