OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma drivers traveling our state turnpikes will have to start paying more to travel those roads starting Tuesday. A 16 percent increase is being applied to most Oklahoma toll roads.

Jack Damrill, with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority says the increase is necessary to make up for budget shortfalls.

Monday crews were out across the state changing the prices on more than 700 toll signs. The signs were then covered up. They will be uncovered at midnight when the new prices go into affect.

Along the Kilpatrick Turnpike many vehicles currently pay 30-cents to exit or get on the turnpike; however, starting Tuesday those cars will pay 35-cents.

Along another popular toll road, the Turner Turnpike from Oklahoma City to Tulsa, the current cost is $3.50. Starting Tuesday the price will be $4. Damrill says this is the first increase in eight years.
