Sound-off: After travel, how do you feel about Milwaukee? - On Milwaukee

Posted: 23 Aug 2009 09:58 AM PDT

There's a lot of travel talk at OnMilwaukee.com these days, thanks to the "Free Recession Buster Getaways" contest that will send winning blog writers to six cool cities. Most will agree that travel is important for new experiences to broaden perspectives. Not to mention, traveling is a lot of fun.

However, after the big trip, when you return home, what are your feelings about Milwaukee? Are you left pining for certain aspects of other cities or do you feel more appreciative of what's here? Sound-off, Milwaukee!

Travel makes me love Brew City. It's great to journey beyond this fine city, but every time I return, I am thrilled to be back. We have so many opportunities here, and it's such an easy city to enjoy a comfortable life. Wherever I go, I am always happy to be home.

Travel makes me want to move. Often, when I travel, I come back to Milwaukee and do not understand why I live here. This city is lacking so many things, from retail outlets to public transportation, and it frustrates me.

Lane, ramp closures on 495 starting Sunday - WTOP Radio

Posted: 23 Aug 2009 10:34 AM PDT

Washington - Drivers may want to take extra caution when traveling along the outer loop of the Capital Beltway for the next several days.

As a part of the Wilson Bridge Project, the outer loop of 95/495 will be reduced to one lane starting Sunday night, lasting until Tuesday morning. The portion between Van Dorn Street and the Eisenhower Connector will be affected because construction crews will perform overhead signage work. Work will start at 10 in the evening and go until 5 in the morning each day.

Other work on 495 will include construction crews placing steel beams for the new bridge over Route 123, the Chain Bridge Road. This work will start Monday and continue for the next three weeks. Ramp closures will begin at 9: 30 in the evening and will reopen at 5 in the morning.

2 French Teens Killed In California Van Crash

FURNACE CREEK, Calif. (AP) ― The California Highway Patrol said two French teenagers were killed and five other French nationals injured when the driver of their van fell asleep, causing the vehicle to run off the road and roll over.

Patrol Capt. Tim Lepper said Sunday that the accident occurred Saturday morning on State Route 190, about 100 miles west of Las Vegas.

The French consul in Los Angeles, David Martinon, said the group was traveling from Las Vegas to California's Death Valley National Park.

Lepper said a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old girl were killed, and four other teenagers were injured, two of them seriously. The driver was identified as 31-year-old Nassera Soudani, who was also seriously injured.

France's Foreign Ministry said the victims were on an organized tour.
